Markem-Imaje delivers fully integrated solutions that enable product quality and safety, regulatory and retailer compliance, better product recalls and improved manufacturing processes.
Markem-Imaje Sweden in Gothenburg is something as unusual as a small innovation and development hub with a startup mindset within an established global company.
Our mission is to lead the development of new innovative products and solutions, from concept to production with the freedom to use the work methods we find most efficient. We love what we do, and we have help from the global organization we are a part of.
The RoleWe are seeking an experienced, skilled, and self-driven Principal Embedded Software Engineer, with a system mindset and an interest in exciting technology. You, just like we do, appreciate working with the complete development cycle, from idea to finished product, via proof of concept and implementation, using effective methods and tools.
In this role, you will:
Develop control software in C++ and Go, as well as associated software architecture, in cooperation with developers from both the local office and other offices within the global organization.
Bring a system level view, understanding how the software interacts with the hardware, how different customers use the products, and using that knowledge in architectural and prioritization work.
Be part of an experienced and passionate team that develops not only software but also electronics and mechanics, with the possibility to share ideas, experience, and knowledge.
Influence design choices within all development disciplines.
What You Will DoYou will develop controller software in C++ and Golang, as well as associated tests, for a controller running embedded Linux that cooperates with other components within the printer, such as MCUs and FPGA. You will interface with other engineering disciplines, engineering teams, stakeholders, and customers to understand the application space and business requirements and use that understanding to influence technology selection and decisions, both within the company and together with major customers.
Beyond day-to-day development, you will:
Lead and facilitate high level software estimation to support business planning activities.
Mentor and teach other software engineers in improving their skills.
Lead design reviews and drive improvements in design and code quality produced by internal and external engineers.
Drive continuous improvement in source control and continuous integration by staying up to date with the latest industry practices and tools.
Test and fault find code written by yourself and by others.
Throughout, you'll work closely with the team to achieve shared goals, and influence and inspire others through personal credibility.
What You Need To HaveBachelor's or Master's degree with significant professional experience developing software, and a demonstrable record of delivering high-quality embedded software for end user products from requirements analysis to delivery.
Expert in writing portable, cross-platform, modern C++ code, with solid experience in Go/Golang and expert knowledge of real time operating system (RTOS) concepts.
Expert architecture and design skills, functional decomposition, architectural viewpoints, UML/SysML, and design patterns, together with advanced implementation skills such as multithreaded and distributed systems programming and on target debugging.
Demonstrable experience in a technical leadership role within a software team and for external engineering resources, including code reviews, design reviews, and mentoring.
Advanced knowledge of electronics, including microcontrollers, memory and peripherals, and experience reading schematics and using oscilloscopes/logic analyzers.
Swedish, French, Italian, or Polish language skills would be beneficial but are not a requirement.
If you believe you match our values and have the experience we're looking for, then apply as we review applications on a rolling basis! We can't wait to hear from you!
